Review: Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit

Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit
Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit

A little while ago, the folks at Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit asked me to try out their new SunGold Kiwifruit. “What the heck?,” I thought to myself. I don’t often review products, but I am partial to a bit of kiwifruit every now and again, so thought I’d give it a whirl.

The SunGold Kiwifruit have a smooth skin and yellow flesh. They’re said to be nature’s multivitamin, rich in vitamin C and also with folic acid, fibre, potassium, iron, Vitamin E and other antioxidants. They’re also low in calories.

But putting the science aside, I really love the taste. To me, green kiwifruit has a floral taste with quite a bit of tartness. But these little gems have a beautiful, smooth honey taste with no hint of tartness. That was enough to reel me in.

The kids love them because you can use a spoon to scoop out the flesh, making them handy for the lunchbox or a great for a quick after-school snack.

Wins and grins all round!

The SunGold Kiwifruit can be purchased in Australia from major supermarkets and selected greengrocers.

Agents of Zespri provided me with a Woolworths voucher to buy the Kiwifruit at my local store. All opinions are my own.

They are paler than what we see here in the U.S. Maybe some smart California or Florida farmer will try to grow some.
